On my TikTok channel, I am frequently confronted with black people (from Central Africa and from America) who are in complete denial of the History of Black Slavery. Apparently, it is because they don’t know the true history. It’s easier to hate white people than to read a few books.
Most black people seem to believe in the Netflix fairytale that says White Europeans ‘stole’ the Africans from their towns using fishing nets to catch them and then drag them off to the Americas.
But I have read the history books. And they tell a completely different story:
The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade started as the Trans-Saharan Slave Trade.
Indeed, Europeans didn’t start the black slave trade at all. Arabs did. Arab slavers began trading black slaves as early as the 4th century AD and kept trading black slaves well into the 19th century.
Saudi Arabia didn’t officially abolish slavery until 1963. The USA did almost a century earlier in 1865.
Arab slavers often procured slaves from rivaling black tribes who were at war with each other, such as from the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the largest suppliers of black slaves. The King of Dahomey, for example, actively went on raids to capture black men, to sell them to the Arabs.
Most black slaves, however, were neither ‘stolen’ nor ‘captured’: They were simply pressured to go with the Arabs, who brought the men to the slave markets of Northern Africa, to Cairo (Egypt), to Marrakech (Morocco), and other such places.
Europeans purchased most of their black slaves from the Arab-run markets in North Africa. (Europeans didn’t catch the slaves with fishing nets.)
But not without dangers: Moroccan pirates off the Barbary Coast also captured about 1.5 million white slaves from Southern Europe, from England, even from The Netherlands, and from ships passing through the Strait of Gibraltar.
Millions of white slaves were also brought to the Americas: Irish slaves, West-French slaves, and others.
The Arabs traded a total of about 27 million black slaves, of which they sold 11 million to the Europeans, but kept 16 million to themselves.
Though the Europeans kept their slaves alive and fed, and allowed them to procreate to populate the plantations, the Arabs actually killed the black females upon arrival, and castrated the black men so they couldn’t reproduce.
For this reason, the USA still has a 14% black population today, but Arab nations don’t, because the Arabs genocided their slaves.
