This War Is Spiritual

This war is spiritual. People are at war and they don't even know it.
It's the summertime and large gatherings of people swarm to their concerts, flock to the theater in the park, or to the fountains with the light shows at night.
Why do we do it? Why do we seek this kind of entertainment? Why are people drawn to the light and sound? Why do we go to clubs, and to churches, to bars, and to the opera? To the cinema, and to the malls?
A cynical government official would say people merely move to consume the next meal, to be fed with culture and laws.
That's not what I see. I see people looking to replenish something, something long-lost but of which the memory still lingers deeply in their hearts and minds.
It is an echo of something as faint as what they now call the background radiation from the Big Bang. But it's something more real than that, what we feel lacking within ourselves. It is the memory of a time when even ordinary peasants still possessed magic.
And so we go to the light shows to see if they can reignite that spark in us. And we go to the concerts to feel the soundwaves, in hopes of returning home charged with new confidence. We go to the movies to see the shadows of whom we might have been.
These are our spiritual watering holes, but the wells have been poisoned. And so, every attempt to find spiritual renewal falls flat. No recreation is as good as its original.
The fountain spectacle is supposed to bring joy, and the cinema is supposed to elevate us. But the poison of degenerate culture makes us feel even emptier and even more depressed.
Nothing seems to soothe the pain of our unmet longings anymore. Even the food we eat no longer satisfies in any quantity. And so we grow fat and dull. No matter where we look, all this modern entertainment fails to meet our truest needs, for we keep seeking salvation outside ourselves rather than within.
“And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”
