We know people are herd animals, but what are people’s base operating principles? Well, it’s a simple cost-benefit analysis. If defending one’s values costs money or effort (without clear rewards), people won’t do it. And if allowing the destruction of one’s values doesn’t cost one anything (delayed cost!), they will allow it.
