Did 1999's The Matrix Predict the Present?

In the 1999 movie The Matrix, there is a scene where Morpheus explains how the Matrix was built. First, during the early 21st century, AI was invented. Artificial Intelligence then began controlling all sorts of machines. And then, the machines started turning against the humans, and the humans decided to blot out the Sun. In response, the machines began harvesting humans to sap their energy.

Today, we have AI-controlled drones fighting wars in Ukraine and Amazon delivery robots dropping off our purchases. Casually, the Biden administration announced it might want to blot out the Sun to stop “global warming”.

No, I don’t believe movies can predict the future. I do believe many people in power are basic simpletons who allow movies to influence their worldview. In other words, people in the Biden administration have all watched The Matrix, all loved the series, and have all been subconsciously influenced by it.

That is the power of movies, the power of suggestion. As much as we like to see our politicians as smart, thorough people, they’re not. They are more akin to children who just watched the latest hype, wishing it were real, ready to buy the branded toys.

Besides, we’re not quite there yet. The present state of AI is that it is a language model that allows humans to communicate with machines. It is not yet “intelligent”. Blotting out the Sun would kill agriculture, and billions of people along with it, but there wouldn’t be any machines ready to start harvesting humans yet.

Just because the Wachowski brothers envisioned such a future, and just because it influenced many in power, doesn’t mean it will happen. And for the same effect, the Wachowski brothers really aren’t the Wachowski sisters now. They are still biological males whose minds have no clue what it’s like to be a real woman.

The transgender movement, after all, isn’t about helping kids express their true “gender”. It’s about castrating boys. The biological women in the trans movement crying for castrations of children at ever earlier ages, of course, don’t really care about transgenderism. They are man-haters who want to extinguish the male sex.

And that ties it all together for me: Nothing we see or hear in the mainstream media represents reality. All we see or hear are echoes from The Matrix: powerful people’s dark fantasies projected onto the public, presented as “fact”.
